Melvin Mora’s sister-in-law shot to death in Brooklyn, suspect at large

Former Orioles star Melvin Mora and his family are mourning the death of the ex-player’s sister-in-law, Iveliss Alvarado-Genao, who was shot to death Friday night in Brooklyn.

Alvarado-Genao’s cousin, Richard Nunez, was at the gathering and heard gunfire on the street. He told the New York Daily News he looked out the window and saw Genao on the sidewalk with a gun in his hand.

He didn’t look scared, Nunez said. He just looked like someone (who) was determined to kill.

According to the Daily News, Genao has been arrested 14 times since 2005 and served two years in prison following an assault conviction in 2007. He remained on the run as of mid-day Monday and authorities are urging anyone with information about his whereabouts to call 1-800-577-TIPS.
