Tony Granato will coach 2018 U.S. Olympic hockey team

The first U.S. Olympic hockey team not to be stocked with NHL players since 1994 will be led by a coach who knows something about the amateur game.

Tony Granato was named Friday to lead Team USA in the Pyeongchang Games next February. He’ll be joined by assistants Chris Chelios, Scott Young, Keith Allain and Ron Rolston.

We’re a group of businessmen as far as I’m concerned, coach John Cheap NFL Jerseys USA Tortorella said after Tuesday’s win. We’re becoming really good pros.

The Pittsburgh Penguins won a record 17 straight in the 1992-93 season — before seven players on the current Blue Jackets roster were born, the Columbus Dispatch noted.

William Karlsson, Cam Atkinson and Nick Foligno scored Tuesday for the Blue Jackets, and goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky had 21 saves to earn his league-leading 25th victory.

The Blue Jackets also are riding an 18-game points streak (17-0-1) and an eight-game home winning streak dating to 2-0 loss to a Nov. 23 loss to the Calgary Flames, both franchise records.

In 2018, McDavid and Draisaitl will be owed a combined $21 million, which would constitute 28 percent of the 2016-17 cap of $75 million (it’s fair to assume the cap will see a slight bump next year). But other cap commitments Edmonton have for that season include forwards Milan Lucic and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins ($6 million each), defensemen Andrej Sekera ($5.5M), Oscar Klefbom and Adam Larsson ($4.16M), and Kris Russell ($4M), and goaltender Cam Talbot ($4.16M). In all, these nine players will eat up about $55M of the cap. So figure that leaves Edmonton roughly $20 million for 14 contracts, which, doesn’t leave a lot of candy Cheap Blank Hockey Jerseys for the rest of the class.

Canucks fire coach Willie Desjardins after disappointing season

Willie Desjardins’ time in Vancouver has come to an end.

The Canucks fired their coach of three years Monday after a disappointing season that produced only 69 points.

Marchand has been disciplined in the past several times for taking Cheap Atlanta Braves Jerseys out opponents’ legs.

In 2011, the NHL fined Marchand $2,500 for a slew-foot on then-Penguins Cheap Blue Jays Jerseys defenseman Matt Niskanen. More recently, he was given a two-game suspension in 2015 for slew-footing then-Rangers forward Derick Brassard.

Marchand took out Kronwall’s legs from behind, but it wasn’t technically considered a slew-foot because he didn’t put his arm on Kronwall.

Marchand, who leads the Bruins with 47 points in 51 games, will join goalie Tuukka Rask in representing the team at this weekend’s All-Star Game.

It’s unclear whether that factored into the NHL’s decision not to issue a suspension. Marchand may not have been able to participate if that was the case.

ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun noted an instance in 2012 when Alex Ovechkin skipped the All-Star Game while serving a three-game suspension.

After a 19-goal, 51-point rookie season two years ago, Draisaitl exploded Cheap Blank Hockey Jerseys in 2016-17, scoring 29 goals and 77 points, second to McDavid on the Oilers in both categories. In the playoffs, Draisaitl starred, leading the club with six goals and 16 points in 13 games.

Draisaitl is going to get paid, very well it should be added, perhaps on a long-term deal worth $7 million AAV. The bet here is that an agreement comes before training camp. The talented young German is simply too important to a team that has serious championship aspirations this season.

Rockies’ David Dahl, expected to start in LF, shelved with rib injury

Second-year Rockies left fielder David Dahl, who arrived at camp as the favorite to win the starting job, will instead spend the coming weeks trying to recover from a stress reaction in a rib that makes baseball activities painful, The Denver Post reported.

“I think the common theme is that he’s going to be fine — in time,” manager Bud Black said. “This is not a months (long) deal.”

Still, the injury could open the door for veteran Gerardo Parra Cheap Blank Hockey Jerseys to become the starter for the Rockies, who are considered by some to be a darkhorse playoff contender this season.

Dahl, who’ll turn 23 on April 1, underwent multiple tests to determine what was causing him pain in his mid-back that was particularly bad when he swung the bat. According to the report, it’s unclear whether he’ll get any more playing time in spring training.

That’s when things got out of control with the addition of the modern, giant side patch for the World Series. It’s been a hat-tastrophe ever since, with no sign of a return to proper normalcy. Just think, back in the day teams wore the trucker-style snapback hats in spring training. What an uncivilized time that must seem from the perspective of Big Hat.

Alas, the patches probably aren’t going anyway. Every MLB event will have its own hat identity from here to eternity. I suppose people will keep buying them, caring not that each purchase endorses this ugliness.
